Understanding Root Canal Treatments
Root canal treatments have long been a subject of controversy in the dental world, with traditional dentistry viewing them as a necessary procedure to save teeth, while biological dentistry approaches them with caution. As a biological dentist, I believe it's crucial to understand both perspectives and consider the potential long-term impacts on overall health. While root canals can seemingly save a tooth from extraction, they may inadvertently create a breeding ground for harmful bacteria that can affect not just oral health, but potentially the entire body.
The conventional root canal procedure involves removing the infected pulp from inside the tooth, cleaning the canal, and sealing it with a filling material. However, the complex network of tubules within the tooth structure makes it nearly impossible to completely sterilize the area. This can lead to trapped bacteria continuing to multiply and potentially releasing toxins into the bloodstream. From a holistic perspective, this lingering infection may contribute to systemic health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders, highlighting the intricate connection between oral health and overall well-being.
