Synopsis

In the Uwesi Republic, Bwenge grows to question the very foundations of his reality. Taught from birth that milk is white, he comes to understand that this simple, unquestioned truth, like so many others imparted by elders, tradition, and society, is a fabrication. 'Milk Is Not White' is the story of Bwenge's awakening as he navigates a world built on convenient falsehoods, a journey that culminates in a profound lesson for future generations: the imperative to scrutinize what we see and what we are told, for things are rarely as they seem. Narrated by a childhood friend whose own identity is submerged in an obsessive devotion to Bwenge, the story unfolds through fragmented recollections, revealing more about Bwenge's transformative experiences than the narrator's own existence. This unnamed narrator, who claims no value for themselves, paradoxically inserts their presence only at moments of intense emotion, their self-negating voice a stark contrast to their deep, unacknowledged pain and devotion.
