Integrated Agricultural Development Plan for Landless Communities: A Sustainable Model for Chilaw

Synopsis

This proposal outlines a comprehensive agricultural development plan designed to empower landless families in the Chilaw divisional secretariat area. The project aims to secure 30 acres of land for integrated farming, encompassing coconut cultivation (60%), banana and vegetable production (20%), and intercropping with pepper and pineapple (10%), alongside essential infrastructure development (10%). A significant component includes the establishment of a large-scale poultry farm (5000 broilers, 2500 layers) and advanced aquaculture operations targeting export markets with species such as freshwater fish, prawns, crayfish, Barramundi, and improved Tilapia hybrids. The plan meticulously details the climatic conditions of the Chilaw region, including its hot, dry weather, temperature fluctuations, humidity levels, solar radiation intensity, and recommended temperature control methods for optimal crop and livestock management. It further explores suitable short-term and long-term harvest crops, livestock suitability, and greenhouse cultivation possibilities. The proposal emphasizes a strategic approach to market timing, identifying export and domestic market vacuums for specific agricultural products and coordinating harvest cycles to ensure timely delivery and maximize market penetration.
