Synopsis

The Rustwing was limping through vacuum on fumes again. Rion Kade, captain by default and debtor by nature, leaned back in the pilot’s chair and squinted at the dwindling fuel gauge like it owed him an apology. He had just botched another payout — their latest “hero for hire” job ending in paperwork snarls and a sneering paymaster. Somewhere in the fine print, their entire bounty had evaporated into “contractual technicalities.” “Technicalities don’t keep thrusters lit,” muttered Rook-73 from the engineering pit, feathers puffed, talons sparking on jury-rigged conduits. “One more unpaid invoice and the Rustwing becomes scrap with our corpses still strapped inside.”
